C-Shift's Acting Man gets Promoted

The members of Engine 31 & Medic 3 would like to congratulate FF Nick Kohlhepp
on his recent promotion to Lieutenant. Nick has been assigned to E31 on C-Shift
for his 20+ years in the department. He will remain on C-Shift & be assigned to
Engine Company 44 in Roland Park. We hope Nick gets his wish to return to E-31
but in the mean time we are all sure he will enjoy the many good nights of R&R.

C-Shift gets a early morning 27 Engine Box

July 20, 2008; At 0412 E27 & T26 were sent out on a silent. While enroute communications
struck out the box for a report of fire @ Bel Air rd & Lake Ave. T26 arrived on scene with heavy smoke
showing from the roof of a 2 story store front. Companies faced heavy smoke inside & made quick work of the fire.
Crews were out for an extended period of time due to the amount of overhaul.

D-Shift goes on a 6 Box

July 15, 2008; D-Shift companies were alerted for box 6-30 at 1618 Barclay St. Units arrived & found a kitchen fire.
Companies made quick work of the fire & no injuries were reported. Crews were out for about an hour

B-Shift takes 33 Box with 2 Rescues

July 13, 2008; Just after relieving D-Shift @ 1537 E31 along with other companies were alerted for Box Alarm 33-15
reporting a fire at 441 E 22nd St. Upon arrival companies recieved reports of people trapped.
Units encounterd heavy smoke & fire conditions on the 2nd & 3rd floors &
successfully evacuated 2 occupants from the dwelling.

D-Shift cathes a fire in Hampden

May, 27, 2008; At 1058 companies were alerted for Box Alarm 31-5, for a reported dwelling fire at 2713 Hampden Ave. Units went on scene & found a 2 story brick row home with a fire on the 2nd floor front room. Recruit Martin (D) recieved minor burns to his face. We would like to wish Recruit Martin a speedy recovery & hope he is back to work very soon.

C-Shift takes 1st in Fire

May 23, 2008; At 1439 companies were alerted for Box Alarm 31-17, reporting a dwelling fire at 1523 E 33rd St. E31 went on scene with a 2-Story brick row with smoke showing from the 2nd floor. Units found a fire in the 2nd floor rear bedroom. The assignment was knocked back to E31, E33 & T5 after approx 35 mins for overhaul & to assist FIB. This was also Recruit Barry's 1st fire after being assigned to the company

B-Shift Receives Distinguished Unit Citation for 2007 Fire

Engine 31, B-Shift. along with numerous other companies are set to receive a Unit Citation for a fire that occured on Cecil Ave in May 2007. The result of this fire was multiple fatalities. The following members were part of E31will recieve the award;

C-Shift takes a 33 box with Code F

April 7, 2008; Box Alarm 33-21.....2009 Guildford Ave

At 1854 Box Alarm 33-21 was struck out for a reported dwelling fire with people trapped at Guilford Ave & E. 21st St.
Battalion Chief 2 reported heavy smoke in the area & Truck 5 arrived with heavy smoke from a 3 story EOG.
Units were hampered with gaining entry due to the front being blocked up. E-31 & E-33 stretched lines to the 2nd & 3rd floor.
Truck 5 reported a civilian Code F, 3rd floor rear. More info to follow.

PO Marty Ernst

C-Shift PO Marty Ernst will work his last night with the BCFD on Saturday, March 22nd. When Marty retires he will have 35 years of service with the department. In which 28 of those years has been spent at a Pump Operator at Engine 31.
Marty has helped many of people get approved to PO through out his career & excelled at his job.
The officers & members of Engine 31 & Medic 3 would like to wish Marty a long, happy & healthy retirement. You will be missed.
Stop by and wish him farwell this Saturday.

Basement Fire in 4 Engine's Area

At 1318 hours units were alerted for Box Alarm 4-1, 4230 Ivanhoe Ave.
Engine 4 was out putting E-31 as the 1st due engine.
Truck 29 went on scene to find a 2 story end of the group with smoke showing.
Units found a small fire in the basement.
Companies had problems venting access tothe basement as all but the front window
were covered over with bricks & cinder blocks.

Update on FF/PM Isaacs

March 9; Bryan has been taken out of the critical care unit & placed in the immediate care unit.
Bryan & his family welcome all visitors at this time, however they will be limited to 4 in the room at a time.
He is up & moving around much more but still has a very long road to recovery ahead.
Please continue to keep Bryan & his family in your thoughts & prayers until is reaches a full recovery & is back to work.

FF/PM Bryan Isaacs, Engine 6 C-Shift

The members of Engine 31 & Medic 3 would like to wish FF/PM Bryan Isaacs, E-6 C-Shift a very speedy & full recovery.
Bryan was involved in a serious incident on March 5th while responding to a box alarm.
Bryan is currently in Shock Trauma with serious head injuries.
As of March 7th, Bryan's condition has improved slighty but visitation is still restricted to Bryan's immediate family.
Please keep Bryan & his family in your prayers & wish for a full & speedy recovery.

D-Shift takes a 2nd Alarm in 52 Engine's area

On February 28, 2008 @ 1101 E-31 was alerted as the 5th due engine on Box Alarm 52-12
for a reported building fire @ 2303 Ocala Ave. While responding E-29 picked up the box cancelling E-31.
At 1118 BC5 requested a 2nd alarm bringing the engine back to the scene. The crew laid out with 5 inch hose
& stretched some hose lines into the fire building. 31 was on scene for about an hour.

Resuce involing MTA Bus

February 11, 2008; Engine 31 & Medic 6 were alerted for a vehicle accident at
Loch Ravenn Blvd & E 36th St. Shortly after responding communications advised that this was being upgraded to a rescue. Upon arrival crews found a MTA Bus into a tree with the driver trapped inside. Companies on scene worked to free the driver & treated numerous other people that were on the bus when the accdient happened & all were transported to local hospitals with the driver of the bus being taken to Shock Trauma. Had a 3 story brick vacant storefront at Oldtown Mall, heavy fire, contained to the building of origin. Units went to exterior operations just prior to the 2nd Alarm. Fire under control at 0754 hours. At 0942 hours, a Code "F" civilian was found on the first floor. The Collapse Wagon was dispatched, and Rescue 1 and Squad 11 were re-dispatched to help remove the victim.

2/1/2008 | Passing of Captain Donald Hubbel

The Baltimore City Fire Department regretfully announces the Death of Captain Donald Hubbel, Rescue Co. #1, BCFD. Captain Hubbel was at his home when he suddenly passed away Friday. Captain Hubbel leaves a wife & 5 children behind. The members of Engine 31 & Medic 3 give our condolences to his family members & the members of the Steadman Station where Rescue 1 is stationed.
